About Us

Who We Are The Literacy Professionals are a nationwide provider of high quality language, literacy and numeracy education to New Zealand businesses across the country. We work from our Auckland base at Languages International, a long established and highly regarded language school with over thirty years of experience developing language and literacy skills of adults and working with clients from all over the world. The school is also an established teacher training centre providing pre-service and in-service teacher training for language teachers working with adult learners.   Our team Nick Moore MA (Hons) Language Teaching and Learning, BA (Hons), PGCE, DELTA, Cert TESOL Director of Studies  / Teacher Trainer Nick’s from the UK originally and has had experience as a language teacher in Turkey, NZ and the UK. He has also had experience working as a second co-author of “The International Student Handbook”, CELTA and DELTA trainer, tertiary English and drama teacher. He’s a specialist in independent learning and is currently working towards his Masters in Literacy and Numeracy Education through AUT.     Dérene Els MProfStud Language Teaching and Learning, BA, CELTA, Cert Tertiary Teaching Workplace Learning Manager Has taught in New Zealand since 2003. Also has extensive administrative experience in education and other industries in New Zealand and overseas.  She has an interest in English for Specific Purposes and Professional Development for the workplace. Dérene has extensive experience in teaching adult learners in a variety of workplace and community settings and has been involved in literacy training and curriculum development for The Literacy Professionals since 2009.   Elisabeth Downey NCALNE, MTESOL (Hons), Grad Dip ELT, BA, DTEFLA, CTEFLA Workplace Literacy Tutor and Teacher Trainer Lizzie has been teaching since 1989 and has also worked in Egypt, Germany, the UK and Australia. She has worked on our programmes with The Selwyn Foundation courses, MIT Facilities Management Team, and Vista. She is also a tutor for our OET courses.   Rhonda Paton NCALNE (National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education -Vocational/Workplace), CELTA Workplace Literacy Tutor Rhonda has been teaching in New Zealand since 2001. Her previous experience in the business world of travel and tourism, and pharmaceuticals gives her a wealth of knowledge to teach on our workplace courses. She has taught on The Selwyn Foundation courses, Vista, Frenz and she is also a tutor for OET. We are members of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
