A big thank you to all our stakeholders (businesses and learners) who made themselves available to be contacted by NZQA when they undertook our External Evaluation and Review (EER) earlier in the year.
Workplace Literacy was one of the key focus areas for the school as a whole. The way the EER works is that the provider carries out a self-assessment then a team of evaluators visit. They interview key personnel at school as well as external stakeholders, then they triangulate what they have found. The EER gives ratings and comments on two criteria: Educational Performance and Self-Assessment Capability. The possible rankings for each are Highly Confident, Confident, Not Yet Confident or Not Confident. We are happy to say that for both areas, the workplace programmes and the school as a whole were rated Highly Confident.
A couple of key quotes:
On outcomes
“…there is good evidence that learners are increasing the literacy levels and this is having a positive impact, not only on their roles and work but also on their private lives. Employers noted that those who had been through the programme were working more professionally and communication processes had improved. These outcomes are excellent.”
On programme relevance
” …there is a thorough needs analysis undertaken before the programme is designed. Staff members are shadowed through their roles and interviews are held with staff and their managers. External stakeholders noted the high value of having a programme tailor-made to their context.”
